Troops from the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) have taken over the security on the Aficiooni Camp conference venue where Somali and regional leaders are expected to meet.

The Special Representative of the Chairperson of the African Union Commission (SRCC) for Somalia, Ambassador Mahamat Saleh Annadif has said in a statement that security at the conference venue has been discussed with regional leaders and former Somali presidents, and that public security and other necessary activities have been provided by the AMISOM command.

The meeting, convened last night by outgoing President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo, is a culmination of an agreement reached on September 17th and the Technical Committees in Baidoa.

Security on the road between the Aficiooni Camp and the Somali Presidential Palace has been tightened, with government troops patrolling the streets and guarding senior government officials attending the conference.

The Somali people and the international community has its eye on the conference in Aficiooni Camp, which is expected to forge the way forward for the Somali disputed poll talks.
