Renowned Somali cleric, Sheikh Nur Barud dies in Mogadishu

Sheikh Nur Barud Gurhan, one of Somalia’s leading clerics has died in the Somali capital Mogadishu last night.

The late Sheikh Nur Barud had been suffering from coronavirus infection at Martini Hospital in Mogadishu for the past few days, and succumbed last night.

The outgoing President of the Federal Republic of Somalia Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo has sent his condolences to the family and friends of Sheikh Nur Barud Gurhan who passed away last night in Mogadishu.

The President sent his deepest condolences to the family, relatives and the entire Somali nation on the passing of the prominent cleric and noted the positive role he played in the cause of Islam, the upbringing and awareness of the Somali people.

“Inna Lilaahi Wa Inna Ilayhi Rajiuun. My condolences to the family, relatives and the Somali people at large on the passing of Sheikh Nur Barud Gurhan.

He was one of the pillars of the Somali clerics who dedicated his time and lives to spreading the religion, awakening and educating the Somali people ”, Said Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo.

Meanwhile, Somali Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble offered his condolences on the death of Sheikh Nur Barud Gurhan and prayed for God’s blessings on the late cleric. “it’s really a saddening death.

“May God bless Sheikh Nur Barud, his family, the Somali people and the Islamic Ummah in general with patience and faith”, Said Mohamed Hussein Roble.

Sheikh Nur Barud, one of the most renowned Islamic scholars in Somalia and the Horn of Africa, has devoted his entire life to spreading and educating the people about the religion, never shy away from proving the truth in any situation.

Sheikh Nur has played an invaluable role in building peace, reconciliation, strengthening governance and exposing extremist ideologies.

Sheikh Nur Barud Gurhan was the chairman and spokesman of the Somali Association of clerics and has survived several attacks by the Somali based terror group, Al-Shabaab members on some hotels in Mogadishu.
