Chinese president calls for joint efforts to develop and strengthen ties with Somalia

Chinese President Xi Jinping said he is ready to work with the Somali government to strengthen bilateral cooperation on the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) for the benefit of the people of the two countries.

Xi Jinping made the remarks in an exchange of congratulatory messages to his Somali counterpart celebrating the 60th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the two countries.

Over the past 60 years, Xi Jinping noted that China and Somalia have always understood, helped and supported each other even in the worst situation.

He recalled that during the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) meeting in Beijing in September 2018, on the development of bilateral relations and that since the beginning of COVID-19, the two sides have joined hands to fight the scourge.

He stressed that he attaches great importance to the development of Sino-Somali relations.

Finally, Xi Jinping called for joint efforts to mark the 60th anniversary of the opportunity to enhance the implementation of the results of the FOCAC Summit in Beijing and the Extraordinary China-Africa Summit on COVID-19 and to enhance cooperation between the two sides of BRI, for the benefit of the people of both countries.
