The Ministry of Health of the Jubaland State Government has conducted a comprehensive malaria capacity-building program for private hospitals in Kismayo, focusing on the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of malaria.
The initiative also included inspections of health facilities and the distribution of malaria medicines and Rapid Diagnostic Tests (RDTs).
The exercise brought together senior health officials from both the Federal Government of Somalia and the Jubaland Ministry of Health.
The delegation was led by Dr. Suleyman Abdiwahid from the Federal Ministry of Health, alongside Abdikadar Mohamed Ali, Head of the Malaria Program at the Jubaland Ministry of Health, as well as state and Kismayo district health authorities.
The primary objective of the initiative was to enhance the quality and accessibility of free malaria testing and treatment services, improve the knowledge and skills of healthcare workers, and strengthen the collection of timely and reliable data to support malaria surveillance and programme planning.
Speaking during the exercise, officials emphasized the importance of equipping healthcare providers with up-to-date knowledge and essential medical supplies to ensure effective malaria case management and reduce the burden of the disease across Jubaland.
The programme was jointly supported by the Federal Ministry of Health of Somalia, the Jubaland Ministry of Health, and UNICEF, reflecting a shared commitment to advancing malaria prevention and improving public health outcomes in the region.
