
The Kismayo district local government, alongside representatives from international embassies and partner organizations, jointly inaugurated a new stormwater drainage channel at the Dahabshiil–Hormuud Junction in the Calanley neighborhood.
The newly completed drainage system forms part of ongoing efforts to improve infrastructure and essential public services across Kismayo District.
The project is expected to play a significant role in enhancing rainwater management, reducing flood risks, and mitigating the challenges often caused by seasonal heavy rains.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, officials highlighted the importance of investing in sustainable urban infrastructure to support the city’s growth and improve the quality of life for residents. The drainage channel is designed to facilitate the smooth flow of rainwater, helping to protect roads, businesses, and residential areas from flooding
The project also reflects broader initiatives aimed at modernizing Kismayo’s urban landscape, strengthening public services, and improving the overall appearance and resilience of the city. Authorities and development partners reaffirmed their commitment to supporting infrastructure projects that contribute to the long-term development and prosperity of Kismayo.
