A man identified as Abdiraxmaan Mohamuud Ali, commonly known by the alias Towfiiq, surrendered to the Jubbaland Darawish Forces in Afmadow district on Tuesday after spending approximately one year with Al-Shabaab militants.
According to security officials, Cabdiraxmaan handed himself over to the forces while carrying an AK-47 rifle, which was surrendered alongside him.
The latest surrender comes amid a growing trend of former Al-Shabaab members abandoning the group and turning themselves in to Jubbaland security forces.
Officials attribute the increase in defections to sustained security operations, intensified military pressure, and ongoing pursuit of militants in areas where they have been hiding.
Jubbaland authorities say the continued security crackdown has significantly weakened militant networks and encouraged more members to leave the organization and seek a return to civilian life.
Security operations against Al-Shabaab remain ongoing across several parts of Jubbaland as authorities work to enhance stability and counter extremist activities in the region.
