The Minister of Planning of the Jubbaland State, Abdirahman Abdi Ahmed, today warmly received a high-level delegation in Kismayo ahead of the official launch of the Urban Resilience Enhancement Project targeting internally displaced persons (IDPs) and host communities in Doolow district, Gedo region.

The delegation’s visit marks a positive step toward the implementation of a development initiative designed to address the pressing needs of vulnerable populations affected by displacement and recurring crises.

The project aims to strengthen community resilience by improving access to essential services, upgrading economic infrastructure, and supporting sustainable recovery efforts.

Speaking during the welcome, the Jubbaland Planning Minister underscored the importance of coordinated efforts between government institutions and development partners to foster long-term stability and growth across the region.

He emphasized that the initiative will play a critical role in rebuilding communities and improving living conditions for both displaced families and the host population.

The Urban Resilience Enhancement Project is expected to focus on expanding basic services such as water, sanitation, and healthcare, while also investing in infrastructure that supports economic activity and local livelihoods. By addressing both immediate humanitarian needs and long-term development goals, the program seeks to promote inclusive growth and reduce the vulnerability of communities impacted by conflict and environmental challenges.

The launch of the project in Doolow is seen as a milestone in Jubbaland’s broader strategy to enhance resilience, support durable solutions for displacement, and accelerate recovery in regions most affected by hardship.

Officials and partners attending the event expressed optimism that the initiative will pave the way for sustainable development and improved quality of life for thousands of residents in the Gedo region.
