The Ministry of Health of the Jubaland State has conducted a specialized training aimed at improving the registration of children’s births within health facilities across the region.
The program was delivered in collaboration with the Department of Civil Registration under the Ministry of Interior and Local Government.
The training session brought together key government officials and health stakeholders, including the Governor of Kismayo district, Omar Abdullahi Mohamed, the Deputy Governor and Secretary of the Local Government, Dahir Hussein Abdi, the Kismayo district health coordinator, Mohamed Sheikh Aden, senior representatives from the Civil Registration Department and a number of healthcare workers from local health centers.
Participants were equipped with essential knowledge on the importance of systematic birth registration, emphasizing its role in generating accurate population data, ensuring access to essential social services, strengthening citizen identification systems, and supporting effective government planning.
During the training, healthcare workers were also provided with practical tools and materials required for recording birth data. They received hands-on guidance on proper procedures for collecting, documenting, and securely storing birth registration information within health facilities.
Officials highlighted that integrating birth registration into healthcare services is a critical step toward improving civil registration systems and guaranteeing every child’s right to legal identity in Jubaland.
