Jubbaland Launches “Blue Prosperity Project” to Boost Small‑Scale Fisheries and Climate Resilience

The Ministry of Planning, Investment, and International Cooperation of the Jubbaland State Government today held an official ceremony to launch the Blue Prosperity Project, a major initiative funded by the Germany Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperationand Development (BMZ), coordinated by the Jubbaland Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation and implemented by the Jubbaland Ministry of Fisheries and Blue Economy.

The inception event was attended by the Minister of Planning, Abdirahman Abdi Ahmed, the Minister of Fisheries of Jubaland, Ahmed Hassan Omar, along with other senior government officials and partners.

The newly launched project aims to empower small‑scale fishers in Kismayo district, with the broader goal of accelerating economic growth, creating employment opportunities, strengthening food security, and enhancing community resilience to climate change.

According to officials, the Blue Prosperity Project will focus on capacity‑building for fishers and cooperatives, improving post‑harvest practices and cold‑chain infrastructure, strengthening value chains and market access, promoting climate‑resilient and sustainable fishing practices and supporting community‑based environmental management and livelihoods.

The initiative is expected to make a significant contribution to the development of the blue economy in Jubbaland, supporting both economic advancement and environmental sustainability.
