The Jubbaland government has strongly criticized what it describes as an “irresponsible and dangerous attempt” by the Federal Government of Somalia to alter the national constitution through procedures that contradict previously agreed‑upon frameworks.
In a press statement issued on Sunday, the Jubaland administration said the federal authorities were pushing constitutional amendments through a process that ignores established guidelines. According to the statement, such actions threaten the stability of the state and undermine the consensus-based constitution-building model endorsed by the Somali people.
The Presidency also raised alarm over recent incidents in the Federal Parliament, accusing some lawmakers of exhibiting “clear irresponsibility,” particularly those reportedly attempting to influence constitutional decisions while the tenure of the President is nearing its end. Jubaland stated that these actions have created an environment of intimidation and physical confrontation within parliamentary sessions.
Jubbaland emphasized that no constitution enacted exclusively by a small group—without broad public and institutional support—will be recognized within its territories. The administration stressed that any legitimate constitution must reflect the collective will of both legislative chambers and the wider Somali population.
