The Jubbaland Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, Abdirahmaan Mohamed Diriq and his accompanying delegation are conducting an assessment mission in Afmadow district to evaluate the ongoing drought conditions and the severe impact on the daily lives of local communities, particularly the most vulnerable households directly affected by the prolonged dry spell.

During the visit, the minister held a high‑level meeting with the Afmadow district administration, humanitarian agencies operating in the area, and security officials from Jubbaland.

In the meeting, the Minister received detailed briefings from district authorities and aid organizations, who presented comprehensive updates on the worsening humanitarian situation.

The discussions focused extensively on the living conditions of drought‑affected families, the major challenges facing the community, and urgent measures needed to deliver timely assistance to those in crisis.

The Minister and his delegation, accompanied by Afmadow district officials, also visited displacement camps hosting families who have lost their livestock and fled their homes in search of relief. Many of these displaced households have recently arrived in Afmadow due to extreme drought and lack of rainfall across surrounding areas.

Afmadow district has become one of the main destinations for drought‑displaced populations in recent months, highlighting the growing need for rapid humanitarian intervention and sustained support to address the escalating crisis.
