Jubbaland State security forces early Wednesday morning thwarted an attempted attack by Al-Shabaab militant group in the Kudhaa area of Badhaadhe district, in the Lower Juba region, according to military officials.
Commanders on the ground confirmed that government forces successfully repelled the assault, destroying three vehicles used by the militants, two of which were mounted with heavy weapons of anti-aircraft guns. The operation resulted in significant losses to the Al-Shabaab attackers, including fatalities and injuries.
Military sources said Jubbaland forces maintained full control of the area following the confrontation, while the militants were forced to retreat after sustaining heavy damage.
Officials further stated that the exact scale of the militants’ losses is still being assessed. Once the data collection and verification process is completed, the Jubbaland military command is expected to release an official report detailing the outcome of the operation.
The incident comes amid ongoing security operations aimed at countering militant activities in strategic areas of the Lower Juba region.
