The Kismayo district municipality has launched a vigorous and well-coordinated campaign to clean and clear the city’s drainage systems, aiming to prevent seasonal flooding and enhance overall urban sanitation.

Municipal sanitation workers are actively engaged in unclogging and maintaining water channels, especially in areas prone to water stagnation and blockage. The cleanup operation spans multiple neighbourhoods across the city, where teams equipped with specialized tools and vehicles are visibly at work.

Speaking on the initiative, Director of the Department of Environment, Abdifatah Adan Abdullahi, emphasized that the drainage cleanup is a key component of the city’s broader strategy to preserve its cleanliness and aesthetic appeal.

The director also urged residents to refrain from dumping waste into drainage systems, warning that such practices contribute to blockages and undermine the municipality’s efforts.

This ongoing operation is expected to significantly improve the local environment and reduce the risk of waterlogging during the rainy season.
