
Afmadow District Commissioner and Mayor, Abdirahmaan Macalim Ali, today welcomed a delegation from the World Food Programme (WFP) and United Nations Humanitarian Air Service (UNHAS) at his office in Afmadow, Lower Juba region.
The visiting team, on a working mission to the district, was received at the Afmadow Municipal Headquarters, where they held a comprehensive meeting with the mayor, local administration officials, security personnel, and representatives from humanitarian organizations operating in the area.
The discussions focused on enhancing humanitarian access to Afmadow, with particular emphasis on the establishment of an airstrip in the district. This initiative aims to facilitate emergency response operations and improve the delivery of aid by enabling easier access for humanitarian flights and other critical missions.
During the meeting, stakeholders also addressed the pressing humanitarian challenges facing the local population. The delegation explored ways to scale up WFP’s support to vulnerable communities in Afmadow, including increasing food assistance and other essential services.
The visit marks a significant step toward strengthening collaboration between local authorities and international partners to improve infrastructure and humanitarian response capacity in the region.
