Jubbaland State President Inaugurates first Environmental and Climate Change Conference in Kismayo

The President of Jubbaland State, Ahmed Mohamed Islam has today officially inaugurated the first Environmental and Climate Change Conference at the Government guest house in Kismayo, Jubbaland state of Somalia.

The conference was organized by the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change of Jubbaland government.

This conference discussed ways to strengthen environmental protection efforts, raise public awareness and address the increasing impacts of climate change.

The Jubbaland State President highlighted that the environmental issues in Jubbaland regional state are rooted in actions like illegal settlements, unregulated deforestation, inefficient use of charcoal, excessive and unplanned well drilling and water pond creations.

The Jubbaland President specifically instructed the Ministry of Environment and the security agencies to jointly prevent activities that harm the environment and to develop a clear plan for managing natural resources to mitigate the risks posed by climate change.

The conference has drawn representatives from the government, both local and international NGOs as well as civil society groups.
