Somalia’s Federal Minister of Interior, Ali Yusuf Ali (Ali Xoosh), said the SSC-Khaatumo administration will play a pivotal role in the upcoming National Consultative Council meeting, scheduled to take place in Mogadishu in early May.
Speaking in Las Anod on Saturday, Minister Ali emphasized the strategic and symbolic importance of the SSC-Khaatumo regions, describing them as central to Somalia’s unity and future development.
“SSC-Khaatumo is the backbone of the country. The Federal Government is placing special emphasis on developing, administering, and delivering essential services in these areas. Las Anod is the home of unity and resilience, and SSC-Khaatumo will have a major role in shaping the upcoming national dialogue,” said the Minister.
He also announced that preparations are underway to begin one-person, one-vote elections in Las Anod and confirmed that federal government institutions would soon open offices throughout SSC-administered areas.
His remarks come as Somali Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre arrived in Las Anod on Saturday, marking a historic first visit by a sitting Somali prime minister to the Sool regional capital in over half a century. The visit aims to strengthen ties between the federal government and the SSC-Khaatumo interim administration, which has governed the area since expelling Somaliland forces during a popular uprising in early 2023.
Prime Minister Barre is expected to meet with local leaders, traditional elders, and civil society representatives to discuss peacebuilding, development, and federal integration. He will also inaugurate several federal government-funded development projects and unveil new initiatives to improve infrastructure, education, and service delivery across the region.
