The Jubbaland government has issued a press statement formally informing all the United Nations (UN) agencies and the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) that critical elections are currently underway in the Jubbaland State of Somalia.

To ensure the integrity and transparency of the democratic process, the Jubbaland government has underscored that UN aircraft should not be used for any political purposes.

Additionally, the Jubaland government has expressed its deep concern over actions by the Office of the Prime Minister of Somalia, which appear to exploit UN and ATMIS aircraft to advance partisan political objectives.

In the press release, the Jubbaland government said such actions compromise the principles of neutrality and impartiality that are essential during this critical poll period.

The Jubbaland Government has unequivocally condemned these unconstitutional and destabilizing measures pursued by the Federal Government of Somalia.
It said that these illegal movements jeopardize the security and stability of Jubbaland state and reflect a troubling departure from the constitutional principles that govern Somalia’s federal system.

The statement further added that the actions of the President and Prime Minister of the Federal Government create unnecessary tensions for narrow political agendas.

The Jubbaland government has also called upon all international partners and stakeholders to adhere the national legal frameworks and dually respect the established roles of both federal and state governments. The statement said that adherence is essential to ensuring peace, stability and constructive cooperation within Jubaland and the broader federal system.
