Government forces killed at least ten Al-Shabaab militants planning to attack a convoy belonging to the African Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) in the Lower Shabelle region Saturday, officials reported.
The official said the militants were killed on the outskirts of the Cel Janalle district, and the attack was successfully prevented.
The failure of the Al-Shabaab attack comes as government forces have taken over many areas in the Galgaduud and Lower Jubba regions in the second phase of operations against the group.
On Saturday, Somali government forces recaptured Budbud, a strategically important district in Galmudug State’s Galgudud region. The government forces retook Budbud by forcing Al-Shabaab militants to withdraw from the district.
