International community representatives join Mogadishu national consultative council meeting

Members of the national consultative council led by the Somali prime minister Mohamed Hussein Roble, Somali regional leaders and the governor of Banadir region have met today for the second day of talks with representatives of the international community joining the talks at the Afisiyoni Tent in Mogadishu.

The conference, which began yesterday discussed the crisis in the country as well as the ongoing controversy surrounding the country’s elections.

The two sides discussed the support and role of the international community representatives in expediting the elections, particularly in the Somali parliament, according to a statement from the prime minister’s office.

“FGS Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble, along with other members of the National Consultative Assembly, met with representatives of the international community to expedite the country’s elections,” The statement said.

The statement from the Prime Minister’s Office added that the Somali premier is committed to agreeable speedy poll process in the country.

“Prime Minister Mohamed Roble is committed to concluding the elections as soon as possible, with all parties involved in the vetting process being consulted, such as the Union of Candidates, Civil Society, Women and other Stakeholders ”.

Talks at Afisiyoni tent are still ongoing with members of the opposition and civil society groups expected to also join the forum for suggestions.

The Somali government, which is chairing the conference, is hoping for a successful conclusion to the ongoing talks.

The Somali people and the world at large is keeping a close eye on the talks and waiting for the outcome of the consultative meeting.
