Reports from central Somalia indicate that a large number of trucks are stranded in Mataban district of Hiran region.
Long distance transporters to Bossaso have complained that the army and the surrounding areas over tax increment by both militia and government officials.
One of the truck drivers said that Galmudug collects taxes in Mataban while militias claiming to be under HirShabelle collect other taxes in Dhisaqa and Baca areas under Mataban.
The militia that set up the checkpoints on the outskirts of Mataban district is led by an officer named Hirsi Gomey who claims to be the chairman of HirShabelle in Mataban district.
The truck drivers are now forced to spend several days on the road for fear of being subjected to hefty taxes.
