Jubbaland’s Minister of Planning, Investment and International Cooperation, Abdirahman Abdi Ahmed, today paid an official visit to the Garissa County Assembly, where he was warmly received by the Assembly Speaker, Abdi Idle Gure, alongside other senior Assembly leaders.

During the meeting, Speaker Gure highlighted the importance of strengthening relations between the institutions of Garissa County and the Jubbaland State of Somalia through sustained dialogue and the exchange of experiences. He emphasized the need to promote inclusive development, peaceful coexistence, and coordinated support for refugees and host communities.

The discussions provided an opportunity for both sides to explore how enhanced cooperation between the people and institutions of Garissa County and Jubbaland could contribute to addressing shared challenges, including counter-terrorism efforts, border security, and the promotion of trade and economic integration.
Given Garissa’s strategic position as a neighboring county bordering Jubbaland, the engagement also served as a valuable learning platform for leaders from both sides.

Participants exchanged views on institutional development, legislative procedures, oversight functions, civic engagement, and capacity building aimed at improving public service delivery.

The meeting was attended by Members of the County Assembly (MCAs), including Hon. Abubakar Haji Sugow (Waberi), Hon. Abdirahman Mohamed Ali (Sankuri), Hon. Hajir Mohamed Dahiye (Abakhaile), Hon. Idris Ismail (Danyere), Hon. Abdiweli Aden (Saka) and Hon. Aden Hussein Durrow (Jarajara). Also present were the Assembly Clerk Hon. Mohamud Abdi Santur, Deputy Clerk Hon. Abdi Shakul Kassim, and members of the Assembly Secretariat.

Minister Abdirahman expressed his appreciation for the warm reception accorded to him and welcomed the opportunity to discuss issues of mutual interest and benefit to both Garissa County and Jubbaland. He underscored the value of continuous engagement, institutional partnerships, and knowledge exchange in advancing shared development goals.

The visit reaffirmed the growing commitment of both Garissa County and the Jubbaland State of Somalia to strengthening cross-border cooperation, fostering regional stability, and building stronger institutional relationships for the benefit of their communities.
