The Jubbaland government has issued a strong statement calling for calm and urging Somali leaders to resolve escalating political tensions through dialogue, warning against actions that could undermine stability and constitutional order.
In a press release, Jubbaland commended the ongoing efforts by federal leaders to address internal disagreements but expressed concern over recent developments involving President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and former senior officials, including former President Sharif Sheikh Ahmed and former Prime Minister Hassan Ali Khaire. The dispute is currently under discussion in a consultative forum led by traditional elders, chaired by respected Murursade elder Ugaas Abdirizak Ugaas Abdullahi.
Jubbaland authorities stressed the importance of conducting all political engagement within the framework of peacebuilding, dialogue, and respect for the rule of law.
The statement underscored that force, intimidation, or politically motivated actions must not be used to silence opposition voices or violate constitutional rights.
“The responsibility of leadership requires safeguarding national unity and ensuring that political differences are resolved through lawful and inclusive processes,” the statement noted.
The regional administration also cautioned against any moves that could derail the country’s hard-earned progress toward state-building and democratic governance. It emphasized that Somalia cannot afford setbacks driven by political rivalry or unilateral decisions that threaten institutional stability.
Jubbaland further highlighted the urgency of cooperation among federal and state leaders, particularly as the country prepares for key electoral processes. It warned that unresolved disputes could complicate efforts to organize credible and widely accepted elections.
Calling for constructive engagement, Jubbaland urged all Somali stakeholders to prioritize dialogue and reconciliation, adding that any attempt to bypass consensus or impose solutions could deepen divisions and weaken trust among political actors.
The statement concluded by reaffirming Jubbaland’s commitment to supporting national dialogue and encouraging a peaceful resolution that preserves unity and advances Somalia’s democratic transition.
