The Ministry of Youth and Sports of Jubaland state has officially concluded a two-day consultative conference in Kismayo, culminating in the endorsement of the Jubaland Youth Policy—an important milestone aimed at shaping the future of young people across the state.
The meeting brought together a broad spectrum of stakeholders, including the First Deputy Speaker of the Jubaland Parliament, members of the Council of Ministers, lawmakers, traditional elders, civil society organizations, women’s groups, youth representatives, and other key segments of society.
The inclusive nature of the meeting underscored the collective commitment to advancing youth development and participation.
During the discussions, representatives from civil society groups and district administrations emphasized the urgent need to create meaningful opportunities for young people. They highlighted access to employment, quality education, and active political participation as critical pillars in enabling youth to play a transformative role in community development and nation-building.
Jubaland’s Chairman of Labour and Employment, reaffirmed the government’s dedication to empowering youth through targeted job creation and development programs. He stressed that strengthening youth capacity remains a priority for ensuring sustainable economic growth and social stability.
The Minister of Women, Family Affairs and Human Rights, Ms. Adar Ismail Jurati, noted that the newly endorsed policy will significantly contribute to promoting youth welfare and safeguarding their rights. She described the policy as a forward-looking framework designed to support inclusive growth and equal opportunities.
Meanwhile, the Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, Abdiwali Hussein Jama, highlighted the central role of young people in state-building, describing them as the backbone of governance. He called for continued investment in education, awareness, and civic engagement to nurture responsible and informed youth leadership.
In her remarks, the Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports, Ms. Fadumo Ali Abdi Karin, expressed appreciation to all participants for their collaboration and commitment throughout the policy development process. She acknowledged that the successful endorsement of the policy reflects a shared vision for empowering the next generation.
The conference was officially closed by the First Deputy Speaker of the Jubaland Parliament, Hiraad Ismail, who commended the Ministry of Youth and Sports and all stakeholders involved for their dedication and hard work. He praised the consultative process and described the approved Youth Policy as a crucial step toward securing a brighter future for Jubaland’s youth.
The newly endorsed policy is expected to guide strategic initiatives aimed at enhancing youth empowerment, expanding opportunities, and ensuring their active participation in the socio-economic and political development of Jubaland.
