The Jubaland Ministry of Energy and Water Resources has taken a significant step toward improving water services by convening a strategic meeting in Kismayo focused on strengthening Public-Private Partnerships (PPP) and developing a unified framework for water sector growth.
The high-level session brought together key stakeholders to deliberate on the adoption of a joint ownership and operational model between the government and private sector, aimed at enhancing efficiency, sustainability, and accessibility of water services across the region.
The meeting was coordinated by the Director General of the Jubaland Water Agency, Mohamed Nunoow, who underscored the importance of collaboration in addressing the growing demand for reliable water supply systems.
Officially inaugurating the forum, Ahmed Hussein Baraki, Minister of Energy and Water Resources of Jubaland, highlighted the government’s commitment to transforming the water sector through innovative partnerships and policy alignment. He emphasized that a coordinated approach between public institutions and private enterprises is key to delivering long-term solutions.
“The future of water service delivery in Jubaland depends on robust partnerships that combine public oversight with private sector efficiency,” the Minister noted during his opening remarks.
The Ministry reaffirmed its ongoing efforts to encourage investment from water service providers, calling on private companies to play a more active role in expanding and modernizing water infrastructure. By creating an enabling environment for investment, the government aims to ensure improved service delivery and broader coverage for communities.
This initiative reflects Jubaland’s broader development agenda, prioritizing sustainable resource management and inclusive growth through strategic cooperation between the public and private sectors.
