The Jubbaland Ministry of Interior has held a quarterly coordination meeting in Kismayo aimed at strengthening cooperation among local governments and enhancing the delivery of essential community services across the region.
The meeting, which brought together senior officials from the Ministry, district commissioners, and experts in local governance, focused on reviewing the current state of public service delivery and identifying key challenges facing district administrations.
Participants held in-depth discussions on the need to harmonize district development plans to ensure efficient, inclusive, and sustainable service provision, particularly in critical sectors such as healthcare, education, and sanitation.
Officials from the Ministry of Interior emphasized that local governments form the backbone of basic service delivery, underscoring the importance of strengthening their administrative and technical capacities to enable them to effectively serve local communities.
The forum also highlighted the importance of accountability, transparency, and the adoption of modern management systems to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of local government operations.
Participants agreed to institutionalize the quarterly coordination forums in order to maintain continuous engagement, improve inter-district collaboration, and accelerate the implementation of development initiatives. Recommendations were also made to expand capacity-building programs for local government staff and to establish a unified data-sharing mechanism to enhance coordination and mutual understanding among districts.
