The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change of the Jubbaland State of Somalia has officially announced the launch of a major environmental sanitation and beautification campaign scheduled to begin on April 17 across all regions of Jubbaland.
In a public statement, the Ministry called on citizens, government institutions, civil servants, schools, universities, businesses, and civil society organizations to actively participate in the campaign, which aims to improve environmental cleanliness and promote climate resilience throughout the state.
The initiative focuses on restoring environmental hygiene, reducing pollution, and strengthening community responsibility toward environmental protection. As part of the campaign, more than 5,000 sanitation workers will be deployed to clean public spaces, government facilities, educational institutions, health centers, marketplaces, and major streets in both urban and rural areas.
The clean-up drive will prioritize the following areas:
•Proper collection and management of solid waste
•Clearing drainage systems and improving public sanitation
•Enhancing the visual cleanliness of cities and public spaces
•Promoting public awareness on environmental conservation and climate action
The Ministry emphasized that the campaign is not a one-day activity but part of a broader, long-term strategy to safeguard the environment and address the growing impacts of climate change in Jubbaland.
Call for Collective Action
The Ministry urged all residents of Jubbaland — including government institutions, private sector actors, youth groups, and environmental advocates — to take part in the campaign and contribute to building a cleaner, healthier, and more resilient Jubbaland.
“This environmental clean-up is a shared responsibility. Protecting our environment today is an investment in the future of our communities,” the statement concluded.
