The district administration of Baardheere, Gedo region has issued a strong warning over the escalating drought affecting villages under its jurisdiction, describing the situation as “deeply alarming” and in urgent need of humanitarian intervention.
The District Commissioner of Baardheere, Adan Muhumed Ahmed, said the prolonged drought has severely disrupted the lives of residents—particularly farmers and pastoralists who are facing extreme shortages of water and food.
He noted that several parts of the district are currently experiencing acute water scarcity, livestock losses, and failing crops, leaving families in increasingly vulnerable conditions.
The commissioner called on government agencies and humanitarian organizations to respond swiftly to prevent the crisis from worsening. He urged them to provide emergency food supplies, clean water, and other essential assistance to the affected communities.
In response to the growing crisis, the district administration has launched awareness campaigns aimed at educating the public on safety measures and long‑term strategies to mitigate the impact of future droughts.
