
A groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of a new Radio Kismaayo headquarters and broadcast tower was held today in Kismayo, marking an important step in ongoing efforts to modernize public broadcasting in Jubbaland regional state.
The foundation stone was laid by the Jubbaland Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism, Abdifitah Mohamed Mukhtar. The event was attended by the Minister of Public Works, the Minister of Health, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, the Director General of the Ministry of Information, the Director of Radio Kismaayo, along with other officials and invited guests.
The new headquarters is set to be a modern, fully equipped media facility designed to meet contemporary broadcasting standards. It will feature advanced equipment and technology aimed at improving operations, enhancing broadcast quality, and strengthening public communication services.
This new building and broadcast tower, funded by IOM, is part of a broad modernization project aimed at upgrading Radio Kismayo, enhancing its capacity, quality, and broadcast reach.
As part of this wider improvement plan, the new broadcast tower is expected to significantly extend Radio Kismaayo’s transmission range to up to 130 kilometres, allowing news and programs to reach a larger audience across Jubbaland state.
In his remarks, Minister Abdifitah Mohamed Mukhtar highlighted that the construction of the new headquarters and tower represents a major milestone in strengthening public media. He noted that once completed, Radio Kismaayo is expected to become one of Somalia’s most influential radio stations in terms of coverage and broadcast quality.
The new facility is also expected to serve as the future headquarters of the Jubaland Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism, strengthening coordination among media institutions and supporting the Ministry’s leadership role in public communication across the region.
