The Jubaland State Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management has issued an urgent appeal to humanitarian partners following a sharp deterioration of the security and humanitarian situation in Kudha village, Badhaadhe district, where thousands of civilians are facing extreme hardship after recent violent attacks.
According to the Ministry, approximately 5,200 households have been severely affected due to recent clashes reportedly involving Al‑Shabaab militants. The violence has triggered the displacement of at least 3,500 individuals, leaving families without access to clean water, adequate food supplies, healthcare, or safe shelter.
The situation has reached a critical point as the attacks resulted in civilian deaths and injuries, and the destruction of key community infrastructure. Notably, one of the village’s shallow wells has been destroyed, depriving residents of their primary source of water and significantly increasing the risk of disease outbreaks.
“The humanitarian conditions in Kudha are alarming and continue to worsen by the day,” the Ministry stated. “Families are struggling to survive in the absence of basic services, and immediate intervention is required to prevent further loss of life.”
The Ministry has outlined several priority areas where immediate humanitarian assistance is required:
1. Provision of Clean Water: Emergency water trucking is urgently needed to supply safe drinking water to displaced and host communities.
2. Food Assistance: Immediate food distribution is essential to address hunger and prevent malnutrition, particularly among vulnerable groups such as children, women, and the elderly.
3. Shelter and Protection: Support for temporary shelters is critical to ensure safety, dignity, and protection for displaced families.
4. Healthcare Support: Urgent delivery of medical equipment, essential medicines, and regular health outreach services is necessary to treat injuries and prevent disease.
The Jubbaland Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management reaffirmed its commitment to coordinating a swift and effective response in collaboration with humanitarian agencies, donors, and partners on the ground.
“We stand ready to facilitate access and support all partners willing to assist,” the statement added. “Together, we can alleviate the suffering of the people of Kudha and help restore dignity, stability, and hope to this conflict‑affected community.”
The Ministry has called on humanitarian actors to act without delay as needs continue to escalate amid ongoing insecurity.
