Jubbaland Government Issues Press Release on Authoritarian Actions by Hassan Sheikh Administration

The Jubbaland government has issued a press release addressing the critical situation facing the country and the steps taken by Hassan Sheikh and his cohorts to replace the National Consultative Council.

The press release from the Jubbaland Presidential Office states:

“The Jubbaland government believes that the events that occurred last night in Mogadishu demonstrate the irresponsibility of Hassan Sheikh Mohamud’s administration. Despite the country being in a severe security crisis, they are preparing for an authoritarian rule and a party similar to the revolutionary one, which lacks substantial power.

This action contradicts the agreed Federal Constitution and the constitutions of the member states of the Federal Republic of Somalia. It undermines the unity of the country and the efforts to mobilize the Somali people to collectively confront the resurgence of extremist groups, which pose a significant threat to our nation.

The role of the two houses of the Federal Parliament has been blatantly disregarded, with all their powers being usurped, rendering them ineffective in fulfilling their duties of protecting the Constitution and overseeing the government.

The Jubbaland government calls on all political stakeholders, civil society, and the Somali people to stand up for the preservation of our nascent statehood. If we do not act today, it will bury the hopes of the Somali people and the peace efforts in our country.

The Jubbaland government urges the international community and friends concerned with Somali affairs to recognize that there has never been a greater need for genuine support for the Somali people. We must not stand by and watch Hassan Sheikh Mohamud’s administration lead the country in the wrong direction.”
