A car bomb explosion has today damaged part of the key bridge in the Bulaburde district, local officials and residents say.

According to an eyewitness, a minibus packed with explosives exploded on the bridge, partially damaging the key bridge connecting Bulabarde to the country’s central regions.

Local officials did not reveal the number of casualties caused by the explosion, and no group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack.

The attack comes a day after the local pro-government militia groups known locally as Macawisley displayed a truck packed with explosives on the outskirts of Beledweyne.

Members of the militia groups known locally as Macawisley said that the truck was intended to attack the Beledweyne and was intended to be the fourth blast in the triple explosions that rocked the city on 3 October.

Beledweyne and Bulaburde have been the center of a recent local community mobilization against al-Shabab. Local officials, including the governor of the Hiiraan region, Ali Jeyte Osman, led community forces who fought alongside Somali government forces, seizing dozens of villages from the militant group.
