PRESIDENT HASSAN SHEIKH MEETS INTERNATIONAL COMMUNITY REPRESENTATIVES IN SOMALIA

The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, has today met with representatives of the international community in Somalia to discuss strengthening key support for Somalia.

The Somali President highlighted the humanitarian situation caused by the drought in the country, noting the government’s efforts and mobilization to address the crisis and called on the international community to play its part in rescuing the suffering Somali people.

The President also briefed the Representatives of the International Community on the importance of his recent visit to some of the State Governments in the country, which reflects his commitment to achieving a consensus for Somalia and strengthening cooperation at the Federal and State levels.

On their part, the Representatives of the International Community commended the reconciliation and drought relief efforts and welcomed the convening of the recently concluded National Consultative Conference at Villa Somalia and the communiqué which is important for state building and development.

Representatives of the international community say they are increasing their support for the Somali government, particularly in the areas of security, humanitarian issues, reconciliation and institution building.
