Former Speaker of Somali Parliament and long-serving MP Sheik Adan Madobe became the first to receive his official registration certificate on Tuesday to contest the election for Lower House speaker next week.
Mohamed Ali Omar (Ana-nuug), who is running for First Deputy Speaker of the Lower House, also received his certificate of candidacy.
Other candidates are expected to receive their registration certificates in the coming days, including the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, Khadija Diriye, who announced her candidacy for Lower House Deputy Speaker.
Also, on Tuesday, the committee for the election of the speaker of the Upper House presented the certificate of candidacy to Senator Ilyas Baddel Gabboose, who is running for the post of second deputy Speaker.
The committees organizing the election of the House Speakers announced that the Upper House speaker would be elected on April 26 and the speaker for the Lower House on April 27.
