Deputy Head of the Sovereign Council Mohamed Hamdan Daglo “Hemetti” and U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs Molly Phee discussed the need for a political solution to end the current crisis in Sudan.
According to the Sovereign Council, Hemetti and Phee stressed the need to complete the country’s democratic transition arrangements to reach elections by the end of the transitional period.
The call of the American diplomat with the Sudanese official intervened after a joint statement by the Troika countries and European Union.
The western countries warned against the unilateral appointment of a new prime minister and called for an agreement with the FFC forces in line with the transitional declaration before appointing a new prime minister.
The deputy head of the Sovereign Council provided a detailed explanation on the political situation in Sudan, and expressed hope that the U.S. will continue its efforts to support Sudan to complete democratic transition, said a statement released in Khartoum.
“The way out of the country’s current political crisis lies in the launch of a comprehensive dialogue leading to a national consensus that includes all Sudanese,” Hemetti further said.
Sky News Arabia TV on Tuesday reported that a diplomatic delegation will arrive in Khartoum in the coming hours for meetings with Sudanese leaders to discuss ways to end the political situation and the way out.
U.S. State Department Spokesperson Nid Price announced that U.S. Special Envoy for the Horn of Africa Jeffery Feltman would be in Addis Ababa within two days but he did not mention his stop in Khartoum.
