The Drought Relief Committee, appointed by Somali Prime Minister, Mohamed Hussein Roble, has begun distributing federal government funds intended for drought relief.
The committee, chaired by Federal Government of Somalia Minister for Relief and Disaster Management, Khadijo Mohamed Diriye has today handed over financial assistance to drought-affected people in the country’s federal member states.
The handover ceremony at the Prime Minister’s Office was attended by regional State Ministers for humanitarian and disaster management and overseen by members of the Drought Relief Committee.
Somali Minister for humanitarian and Disaster Management, Khadijo Mohamed Diriye said the distribution of government funds for drought relief to regional state would help in cushioning the adverse effects of the drought situation in the states.
The South West regional state Minister for humanitarian affairs who spoke on behalf of the regional states, thanked the federal government of Somalia for the drought funds assistance, adding that it would be wisely used for its intended purpose.
