Federal Government of Somalia discusses UN arms embargo on Somalia

Somali Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Co-operation, Mohamed Abdirizak Mohamud has received the United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Political Affairs, Peacebuilding and Peacekeeping Operations (DPPA-DPO), Ms. Martha Ama Akyaa Pobee in Somali capital, Mogadishu.

The two leaders discussed political developments in the country, the electoral process, security and stabilization operations by the security forces and the importance of lifting the arms embargo imposed on Somalia since 1992.

The meeting also focused on the latest developments in Somalia and the Federal Government of Somalia’s efforts to find a political solution to internal disputes and strengthen United Nations co-operation in the areas of politics and basic services to improve the humanitarian, economic and security situation.

The meeting comes at a time when the country is in an election period, and the Somali government is at war with The Al-Shabaab terror group.
