U.S. Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin says the United States is now safer than it was 20 years ago, when the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks killed nearly 3,000 people.
In an interview with VOA, Lloyd Austin was also asked about US counterterrorism operations around the world, and whether the United States is sending troops to Somalia again.
Asked if he would send troops to Somalia, he said he did not want to announce at this time that he would send troops to Somalia.
The US government and its military has supported the Somali government forces in the fight against the Al-Shabaab terror militants which has torn apart the horn of Africa nation but the US government has withdrawn its troops from Somalia.
