AMISOM appoints 7-member committee to investigate the Lower Shabelle killings

The African Union Mission in Somalia, AMISOM has condemned the killing of seven civilians in Golwayn village in Lower Shabelle region,
A statement from AMISOM said.

Preliminary investigations have revealed that the seven people killed were not members of the Al-Shabaab terror group.

AMISOM says it has launched an emergency investigation, which has set up a seven-member committee.

“To investigate this serious incident and suggest the next steps, AMISOM has formed a seven-member investigation committee, which has immediately commenced its work. The Committee will recommend that compensation be paid to the families affected in the event that the AU soldiers are convicted,” The statement said.

The statement further said that the investigations will be closely and directly with the FGS and the affected families are promised a prompt and transparent investigation, which will end on September 6, 2021,”.
