A delegation from the African Union Security Council has arrived in the Somali capital Mogadishu, where they were welcomed by Somalia’s Minister of State for Security and other official government members.

The members of the delegation began meeting with the Somali government officials in Mogadishu to discuss the security situation in Somalia.

The Director General of the Ministry of Defense, Hassan Mohamed Said Samatar Gaaliye, said the purpose of the delegation was to assess whether the Somali security agencies are ready to take over security from the AMISOM.

He also said that today’s meeting will kick off in the capital, government authorities and security forces will be present so that the security situation in Somalia is widely consulted.

The Somali government has repeatedly said it is ready for government forces to take over security from AMISOM but Al-Shabab terror militants are still fighting in many parts of the country.
