Embattled Somali President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo expressed concerns over the current deteriorating political situation and election issues in Somalia.

The President spoke of the Government’s commitment to holding democratic elections in the country that reflect the democratic growth and development aspirations of the Somali people.

Embattled Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo said the biggest impediments and challenges facing the nation has been foreign interference and misguided efforts to destroy the country and divide the people.

“As a government, we are ready to hold an unconditional election based on previous agreements reached on September 17, 2020, and the recommendations of the technical committees reached in Baidoa on February 16, 2021,” Said Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo.

He praised the peace efforts of the caretaker Prime Minister and the Presidents of Galmudug, Hirshabelle, South West and the Governor of Banadir and welcomed their calls for elections.

“The Somali people will tonight find out who is working to prevent elections, destroy the government, and who is supporting the peace, nationhood and unity of the Somali people,” Said Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo.

The President added that “As the guardian of the Constitution, and I must balance the previous political agreement with the last law passed by the House of Representatives, I will appear before the House of Representatives on Saturday to restore order in the country and agreed upon by the Heads of the Federal and State Governments”.

Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo called on all parties in Somalia to stop petty politics that could lead to instability in the country, ordering security agencies to maintain stability in the capital and the safety of civilians and to avoid anything that could lead to insecurity.
