The Puntland state administration has issued a statement on the preliminary conference in Afisyooni camp in Mogadishu whose top agenda was Somali poll discussion.
The meeting will be adjourned today and will be reconvened on Tuesday to further continue with high-level poll talks.
Puntland administration spokesman Jama Deparani denied allegations that the conference had flopped and has confirmed that the talks will continue.
“The preliminary meeting of the Somali leaders meeting in Mogadishu has now in a breather. Yesterday which was the second day of the high level meeting, the leaders discussed the agenda of the election and other issues,” the statement from the Puntland administration said.
The spokesman added, “The leaders discussed key issues in the run-up to the elections, such as the holding of an election conference and other challenges that may arise as a result of the poll”.
The leaders have now taken a breather from the meeting and its set to resume back on Tuesday 6th of April.
This comes hot on the heels of a threatening sanctions by the UN security council on Somali political leaders who prove to be a stumbling block and a headwind to conducting the Somali elections.
