Mohamed Ibrahim Moalimuu, a spokesman for the Somali government, told the BBC’s Somali Service that the statement from the Somali candidates’ union, which called for a coup d’etat by Somali President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo, had created a serious situation.
Moalimuu said the Somali government is making efforts to resolve the dispute and a satisfactory election will be held after talks.
He added that there was no fear of a run-off election and that the public should not be disturbed.
Mohamed Ibrahim Maalimuu announced that talks will commence earnestly between the heads of the federal government and the regional administrations in the country. They said the federal government is working with some of the presidents of the regional administrations in the country to resolve the poll impasse.
