7 Children living in BarsanGuni area of Jamaame district and who have contracted measles have succumbed to their ailment.
Amina Salad, a mobile medical team who spoke to Radio Kismayo said there were 62 children registered and diagnosed with measles in Barsanguni.
The Barsanguni district commissioner said seven children died of measles in recent weeks.
Barka is about 45km from Kismayo and has no health facility but residents have a health center near Bula Guduud which is about 15km away.
The Bula-Guud local health center is for maternal and child-only care and treats 12 villages under Bula-Guud.
Measles and pertussis are the most common illnesses in children who have not been vaccinated and those whose parents have not gone to health facilities for a complete immunization.
