The country’s controversial Electoral Commission has issued the 2020/21 Electoral Procedures for the Upper House and the forms of candidates seeking to join the Upper House of Parliament.

A statement from the commission detailed the procedures for the 2020/21 elections for the upper house, calling on state leaders and parliaments to play their part in ensuring that the elections are held on time.

The Federal Election Implementation Committee (GHDHF) for 2020/21, with reference to the official announcement of the implementation of the elections and giving priority to the acceleration of the country’s electoral process has today, December 26, 2020, disbanded the Federal Member States of Somalia election procedures and forms required to be completed by candidates for the Upper House seats.

The committee also requested State Governments to officially begin the registration and processing of applications for Upper House candidates.

The Commission recognizes the scope of the task ahead and urges State Government officials to play their part in the conduct of the elections and to work with the commissions and the people of Somalia to ensure the success of the elections and to be transparent, open and free and fair.

The Federal Electoral Implementation Committee reiterates the need for the Heads of State and Parliament to play their part in ensuring that the elections are held on time.
