The international community has expressed concern over the agreement reached between the President of the Federal Government of Somalia and the five Presidents of the Federal Member States regarding the 2020/21 electoral process.
A press release by the the international community reads part;
“We acknowledge that this agreement is the result of a Somali-led and the Somali-owned dialogue between Federal government and the Federal member states and our friends understand that some details of the agreed process have not yet been established and unsubstantiated and additional stakeholders could be consulted “.
The Press release further reads;
“Friends of the International Community are disappointed that the announced process falls short of Somalia’s long-held goal of direct voting for members of parliament in this round of elections. Friends are calling for the 2020/21 election process to free, fair, transparent and inclusive ”.
