The Speaker of the Jubbaland Parliament, Abdirahman Mohamed, alongside the Minister of Environment and Climate Change, Aidid Suleiman Hashi, and members of the Jubbaland Council of Ministers, officially laid the foundation stone for Information Management Centre (IMC) for Water, Land and Climate Services.
The establishment of the centre marks a significant step toward strengthening weather forecasting and climate monitoring services across Jubbaland.
Once operational, IMC centre will generate and disseminate critical data on drought conditions, rainfall patterns, wind systems, land and sea temperatures, and early warning information on climate-related hazards.
The centre is expected to play a vital role in improving disaster preparedness and response by providing timely and accurate weather information to communities, government institutions, humanitarian actors, and other stakeholders. It will also support environmental protection efforts and contribute to safeguarding lives and livelihoods across the region.
Officials highlighted the importance of investing in climate information systems as Jubbaland continues to face increasing environmental and climate-related challenges. The new facility is expected to enhance evidence-based decision-making and strengthen resilience among vulnerable communities affected by climate change.
The foundation-laying ceremony reflects Jubbaland’s commitment to advancing climate services, disaster risk reduction, and sustainable environmental management for the benefit of its people.
