Jubbaland Cabinet Reviews Security Situation and Intensifies Flood Preparedness Measures

The Speaker of the Jubbaland Parliament, Sheikh Abdi Mohamed Abdirahman, on behalf of the Jubbaland leadership, chaired a meeting of the Jubbaland Council of Ministers at the Presidential Palace today, focusing on the region’s security situation and preparedness efforts to address potential flooding risks.

The high-level meeting paid particular attention to the anticipated impact of El Niño-related floods, which are feared to affect parts of Somalia, including several areas across Jubbaland.

Officials discussed the possible consequences of flooding on local communities, livestock, agricultural production, the environment, and critical public infrastructure.

Cabinet members reviewed the current situation and underscored the importance of strengthening early preparedness measures, strategic planning, and coordination among government institutions to prevent or minimize the potential effects of flooding on residents.

The Council also emphasized the need for proactive and rapid-response mechanisms to address any emergencies arising from severe weather conditions. Protecting lives, safeguarding key infrastructure, and ensuring an effective response framework were highlighted as top priorities.

The meeting concluded with a renewed commitment to enhance inter-agency cooperation and implement practical measures aimed at mitigating flood-related risks and ensuring the safety and resilience of communities across Jubbaland.
