The Deputy Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management of the Jubbaland Government, Mohamed Osman Jama, arrived today in Afmadow, a town in the Lower Juba region, to assess the intensifying drought conditions affecting the district and surrounding areas.

Upon his arrival, the Deputy Minister was warmly received by district authorities, traditional elders, and security officials, who briefed him on the humanitarian situation and the immediate needs of the affected communities.

The visit forms part of the Jubbaland Government’s broader efforts to closely monitor humanitarian conditions in drought-hit regions and to strengthen the coordination of emergency response operations.

During his stay in Afmadow, the Deputy Minister is expected to hold a series of meetings with local administrators, community leaders, and various social groups. These discussions will focus on the severity of the drought, urgent community needs, and strategies to scale up relief interventions for the most vulnerable families.

As part of his mission, he will also visit internally displaced persons (IDP) camps in Afmadow, where numerous families—displaced from their homes by prolonged drought—are currently seeking refuge and emergency assistance.
