The President of the Jubbaland State of Somalia, Ahmed Mohamed Islam, chaired the weekly meeting of the Council of Ministers on Thursday, addressing critical national security matters, the evolving political landscape, and urgent humanitarian relief efforts regarding the ongoing drought in the region.

The Jubbaland Ministry of Internal Security briefed the council on the comprehensive security situation across Jubbaland regional state. The report highlighted recent successful operations conducted by security forces in various districts. These strategic operations have yielded tangible results, significantly bolstering safety and reinforcing stability throughout the state.

In a focus on long-term sustainability, the Jubbaland Ministry of Environment and Climate Change presented updates on local environmental conditions. Key discussions centered on proactive initiatives aimed at reducing plastic pollution and implementing measures to combat the spread of the invasive Prosopis juliflora (Cali-garoob) plant, which poses a substantial threat to the local ecosystem.

Addressing the immediate humanitarian crisis, the Jubbaland Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management provided a detailed report on the drought situation currently affecting parts of Jubbaland state. The Ministry confirmed that emergency food assistance has successfully reached families severely impacted by the shortages.

Furthermore, the council pledged to intensify these efforts, collaborating closely with government agencies and international partners to strengthen the humanitarian response and ensure support reaches those in need.
