A Somali government delegation led by Internal Security Minister Abdullahi Sheikh Ismael Fartaag is attending the 92nd INTERPOL General Assembly, held from November 4-7, 2024, in Glasgow, United Kingdom.

The annual assembly has gathered over a thousand senior law enforcement officials worldwide to discuss pressing security issues and appoint INTERPOL’s new leadership.

“Honored to lead the FGS delegation at INTERPOL’s 92nd General Assembly in the UK—an important opportunity to boost global cooperation against crime and strengthen Somalia’s security through new partnerships and insights,” Minister Fartaag said.

A key item on the agenda is appointing a new Secretary General, as Jürgen Stock concludes his second and final term after a decade in the role. Valdecy Urquiza of Brazil, nominated by INTERPOL’s Executive Committee following a recruitment process earlier this year, is the candidate to succeed Stock. Also, the assembly will vote for nine new members of the Executive Committee as the terms of current members end.
